Luciole Blog

17th - 23rd June 2018

We welcomed back Chantal and Diana this week as the tour leaders for a fine bunch of Australians, who brimmed with enthusiasm for the beautiful Burgundian scenery. Round every corner was a desirable photo opportunity not to be missed. There was even the odd diversion on the trail of a spectacular poppy field.

There was not just the capturing of the scenery that was executed with gusto. Throughout the week there ensued a series of increasingly competitive petanque matches - France's culture was being comprehensively embraced. Every patch of gravelly ground was fair game for a contest. Rivalry got so fierce that the live band on the night of La Fête de la Musique was passed up in favour of petanque score settling. It was serious business!

We had a delightfully unorthodox staggered dinner on one evening when Penny invited everybody to her home. Onion soup on terra firma, a stroll around Penny's garden and the imbibing of a modicum of wine ensured the best start to the evening. And it was then back to the boat for the next course - just like the Mad Hatter's tea party.

There was a bit of sadness for the Luciole's crew this week when we had to say goodbye to Marine who heads back to continue her studies. We will miss you, Marine. But there was also a big welcome to Lyn who joins us to take over Marine's reins.

And of course it was sad to say goodbye to our group who head over to the Loire for more adventures.
