23rd – 29th April 2023
The season began in Auxerre with a delightful charter group of school friends, that met at the age of 4, obviously a very special school.
On the Sunday night, we walked up onto the foot bridge, ‘the Passerelle’. Here we marvelled at the crescent moon hanging over the Cathedral of St Etienne. It is such an iconic view of the city skyline, with the Cathedral and Abbey of St Germain reflected in the River Yonne.
The first day of the cruise saw the annual horse crossing of the bow of the Luciole, with lock keeper Olivier taking his pony to the green pastures of the island on the other side of the lock, using the Luciole as a bridge.
On Wednesday a game of boules in Accolay preceded our visit to the family run restaurant of La Fontaine.
Along the canal the singing nightingales escorted us on the cruise to Clamecy. Springtime on the Nivernais.
