Paris top tips - No 4 - Sacré-Cœur
Sacré-Cœur dominates the northern skyline from the hilltop district of Montmartre. It is a great place to watch the sunset from, with panoramic views looking south, before walking down through the winding streets. I really enjoy it up here, and there’s always something going on. I recommend taking your own drink of beer or wine, sitting on the steps and watching or listening to the street artists performing as the sun comes down over the rooftops. The basilica itself is open until 10:30pm.
Abbesses or Anvers are the closest metro stations. The price of a good view is a steep hill… However there is a funicular that will skip out a considerable amount of steps - it even takes metro tickets.
To the west of the basilica is the artist’s district, now quite touristy, it’s nice to walk down through in the direction of Moulin Rouge! Between the two you’ll find relaxed wine and cocktail bars spilling onto the street. The small and quirky bistro La Bascule does good food and Cafe des Deux Moulins featured in the classic French film Amélie.
