A three-generation family charter, full of fun and energy, included our youngest ever passenger, just 3 months old. My word, what a perfectly behaved little baby!
Up in Mailly-le-Château, Captain Kevin was rather stunned to see the appearance of old shops and a World War II statue of a soldier in the main square. It was not at all how he remembered the village from previous visits a decade ago. The answer? A stage set had been created for a film about The Resistance. In Burgundy, the Resistance fighters were a force to be reckoned with—an underground movement determined to assist the Allied forces against the occupying German Army. Around the Nivernais, as well as statues for French soldiers lost, one often comes across memorials to Resistance fighters, both men and women, murdered for their bravery and audacity in standing up to the invaders.
Matelot Cailan’s brother came to visit. Always a pleasure to see past crew, Shaun was our matelot at the end of the 2022 season. On Friday night at the Captain’s Dinner, he added his guitar-playing talents to the joyful celebration, which lasted long into the dark night.
On Saturday, the family slipped away to Paris. The toys and books from Fontenille, no longer required, were packed up and taken back until needed again for the next little family. However, we found a little duck left behind—come back soon, Ryder! She is waiting for you.
