13th – 19th October 2024

We cruised with a group of friends who had known each other since their college days, spent in Europe. Decades of friendship are wonderful to witness and be a part of.

Sunday evening after the welcome aboard, we stood on the deck and watched the ‘Atlas Comet’ glide low across the sky, disappearing behind the trees—a sight to behold on a perfectly clear, warm October night. After all, it is not every day that one sees a passing comet with the naked eye.

On Monday morning, Captain Kevin took passengers up the hill to take a closer look at the World War II film set in Mailly-le-Château. We checked out the reconstructed épicerie under the watchful eye of the set manager, who was not impressed when we got a little too close to the sacks of grain and lentils. He swiftly came across the square to ask us not to touch! The sweets and toys in the shop window looked very realistic; time really did seem to have stood still in this hilltop town.

Our restaurant night was delightful as ever. André and Alexander, uncle and niece, looked after us superbly at the restaurant ‘Hostellerie de la Fontaine.’ The old arched cellar is full of character and warm ambiance, making for a lovely evening.

For Friday’s Captain’s Dinner, the hosts crafted napkin roses for the ladies and tuxedos with bow ties for the gents. Perhaps the napkins should have been in the colours of your baseball team - we do hope the best team won the competition!
