We welcomed two families aboard for a cruise to Auxerre. It is always lovely to hear children’s voices on the Luciole, soaking up the experience of daily life on the water; cruising, passing through locks and seeing them up on the wheelhouse along with the Captain Jim and Cailan, the Luciole’s matelot. Perhaps we are inspiring a future generation of sailors?
There was lots of cycling along the tow path and French boule in the villages. At Penny’s house there was a game of hide and seek outside and even a very clever sighting of ‘the famed rabbit’ although it has to be admitted he had popped into the next door neighbours garden. Aboard the Luciole, there were lines of shoes by the stairs, jumpers draped over the banisters, card playing on the carpet and a heart-warming display that signalled ‘we feel at home’. It’s just the way we like it, our passengers feeling at home.
We organised onshore activities that included; zip lining through the trees and on a beautiful bright sunny day, horse riding in the hills. On Friday afternoon, the finale it was cave climbing in a spectacular location, we were the only people in the vast quarry and at the end the youngsters chose their favourite music tracks to play over the high powered speaker system. Memorable!
The saloon looked rather bare when the families departed on Saturday morning. One could not help but feel sad that there were no more little shoes, colourful attire and trinkets adorning the saloon. Thank you all for the fun memories.
