Canal cruise Burgundy

Luciole Blog

9th - 15th September 2018

A special week, for many reasons, but most importantly we had a proposal onboard!! It was very special to spend the week with the lovely Steve and Erin (who said yes!) Not to be overshadowed were the birthdays of Kevin and Pirkko, a truly fantastic cake was produced by the talented chef Tadek. The weather was fantastic and an evening staring at the stars was a certain highlight.

Mid September can only mean one thing in Burgundy, it’s harvest time in the vineyards! Chablis was a buzz of activity, a trip to the top of Grand Cru hill to watch the pickers in the fields! We travelled to Brocard for a wine tasting and learnt about the terroir of Chablis, it’s vines and their wine making process. Wine makers have many secrets especially at this time of year, but we were offered the rare opportunity to step into and see the pressing room, where the freshly picked grapes were being pressed, fortunately not by feet anymore, but a large mechanical drum. The juice is then collected and put into fermentation vats, where the yeast builds and the sediment separates. We were offered the opportunity to taste straight from the vat, the cloudy grape juice with a slight fizz signaling the start of something special.

Overall a great week of adventure and suprises, for the guests and I (Will) after leading my first week as a tour guide. Thank you to the guests and crew for a great week, full of laughter and love.
