There was quite a breeze blowing across the River Yonne when our American and British passengers arrived down from Paris. They stepped off the bus already good friends – how can that be, I always ask myself? They have only known each other for a few hours. After a delicious gourmet meal, presented by our chef extraordinaire, Michael, there was coffee was served on deck in the twilight hour.
From the breeze of afternoon, in the evening the wind dropped, as so often happens here in Auxerre. There was barely a ripple on the rivers’ surface, creating the perfect mirror reflection of the city and her magnificent skyline.
Straw boater hats for the happy cruisers were the order of the day in Chablis, on Grand Cru Hill, before the wine tasting. The boaters (both hats and passengers) certainly looked the part in the summer sunshine, so close to Midsummer’s Day.
For our visit to the restaurant in Avallon, Chez Cuisine Angeline, we dined outside in the courtyard. Glasses clinked in celebration at the beginning of the evening and coffee was sipped at the end. The essence of summer magic. Surely we had all known each other for longer than 48 hours?
Back on the Luciole, as dusk descended, nightcaps were quietly enjoyed on this balmy evening while the stars emerged one by one and we were serenaded by amorous frogs! And let's not even mention one of Chef Michael's specialties!
We had an accompanying Mr Batty during the cruise, who got up to all sorts of adventures before nightfall. Come back soooooon. We miss you!
Our final destination was a little different from usual: Coulanges-sur-Yonne, beneath the trees. On Saturday morning, there were fond farewells. It was a wonderful midsummer cruise, creating sunny memories and friendships for everyone.
