Summer break 2025

The Luciole and her crew took a well-deserved mid-summer break, enjoying holidays both in Europe and further afield. Even the flowers went on vacation – lovingly cared for by Sarah, our host at her riverside home in Clamecy.

In Burgundy, poppies bloomed across the cornfields, whilst in Paris, by popular demand, the magnificent Olympic torch floated once again above the Jardin des Tuileries. A wonderful reminder of the terrific success of last year’s Olympic Games in the City of Light.

Meanwhile, aboard the Luciole, mid-season tasks were completed. Sarah and her partner Harry - who do so much for us out of season - were there for the installation of the new air-conditioning unit and many other projects. Will also joined us with his family, as did Arthur (Liley) and Amelia, who were our hosts back in 2016. Tom, who was matelot alongside them (and whose old blogs are well worth a read), came aboard as well to give Will a hand in the engine room.

As the holidays drew to a close, it was wonderful to welcome the crew back aboard the Luciole - catching up on news and preparing for the weeks ahead. Everyone worked tirelessly to be ready for Sunday afternoon: adding the final touches of exterior painting, preparing the cabins, and of course, returning the deck flowers along with a beautiful bouquet from Sarah’s garden.

There was a shared excitement in the air at the thought of cruising once again on the glorious Nivernais Canal. Our corner of Burgundy could not be more beautiful and we were eager to share it once more with our passengers.
