Sunday marked the finale of the Paralympics. It has been a sensational summer of celebration in Paris for both Olympians and visitors alike, who have experienced the fabulous "City of Light" in all its festive glory.
In Burgundy, our American and Australian passengers enjoyed a week of occasional showers followed by bursts of sunshine while cruising from Clamecy to Auxerre. The sun shone in Vézelay and later in Fontenille, where we stopped for our customary apéro of chilled local Pinot Noir Rosé—though some opted for a beer instead.
For Captain Kevin and matelot Cailan, Wednesday's cruise from Mailly-le-Château to Accolay was a day of frequently donning and doffing wellies and waterproofs. However, by the time we arrived, the bright evening sunshine had dispelled the clouds, leaving behind that magical post-rain glow that makes you say, "Wow!"
This cruise will be remembered as the ‘Red wine rules OK’ week, and we were delighted to organise a selection of Bordeaux in Auxurre. Thank you to Joe and Jeff for inspiring us. It was a most enjoyable extra ‘degustation’ after our visit to the breathtaking 11th century Crypt of the Cathedral of St Etienne.
