15th – 21st September 2024
A week where the sun shone during the day and on Tuesday night, the ‘Super Harvest Moon’ hung high into the clear night sky as we left L’Hostellerie de la Fontaine in Accolay for the short stroll back to the Luciole.
After a lovely cruise, cocktails were the order of the day and I was mightily grateful that Daniel could whip up an ‘Old Fashioned’ for himself and Murray. Last year, when I was asked for an Old Fashioned, it had me wondering which can of pop could fit the bill. Thankfully Victoria recognised my uncertainty, and kindly rescued me saying “Don’t worry I’ll ask Scott to make me one”. My response was “Oh – it’s a cocktail”. James is our onboard cocktail king – he is a whizz with concoctions (unlike me!).
Nicolas as always was the magician in the galley. Heavenly creations of flavours and textures created to stunning effect both for lunches, evening meals and not forgetting the 55th wedding anniversary gateau.
The visit to Vézelay to see Christopher at ‘La Maison du Visiteur’ was as enlightening as ever and the Basilica was breathtaking, bathed in the softer September sunshine. The return to the Luciole via an apero in Fontenille, also had us stopping on the wayside to identify a plant, in order to answer the question ‘what is that crop?’ The answer later discovered to be - Buckwheat – no wonder none of us knew!
