Gail and John arrived to the Luciole as a charter group, with their lovely friends. The weather it is true to say, was out to thwart us but that did not stop the enjoyment. We thank you for your understanding of the unusual elements.
Our usual visits blended with new visits to the Grotte d’Arcy and a trip into Avallon to the famed Dame Jeanne Café for refreshments. There was lunch too at Penny’s house in sunny Fontenille, where rosé wine was sipped before Nicolas’ delicious seafood lunch.
It seems that each week, there is a new floral announcement. This week it was the arrival of the first poppies, spring is behind us, summer is arriving. In my garden, the bee orchids are also a sign of summer and they too are just about to flower, to accompany the mighty lizard orchid and cheerful bright magenta pyramid orchid.
At Captain’s dinner the wine flowed, poured with good humour by Captain Jim and the matelot Cailan. Always a night to remember, particularly for a group of close friends who have travelled so often together.
