Paris, the City of Light, hosted the 2024 Olympics this summer, beginning with an ambitious parade of boats along the River Seine, carrying Olympians and celebrities. Spectacular entertainment along the riverbanks and from the elegant buildings nearby was dazzling and unique. Even a sprinkling from the Rain Gods couldn't dampen spirits.
The Olympic Flame was simply stunning. By day, it nestled in the Jardin des Tuileries, and at dusk, it rose as a huge golden orb into the summer night sky, swaying majestically in the breeze. It was a sight to behold.
I was fortunate to be there for the Saturday marathon, which passed close to the Hôtel Mansart and through Place Vendôme on a circuit of the city. Hundreds of runners—what a sight to behold.
Meanwhile, aboard the Luciole, the mid-season break continued with crew holidays, followed by painting and then a cruise from Clamecy to Auxerre. It was an enjoyable time for the crew and their visiting family and friends to soak up the joys of our wonderful Nivernais Canal.
