25th June – 1st July 2023
Cruising this week were family siblings, friends and we were honoured to have Tom and Sheila who have previously cruised with their spouses. At Captain’s Diner we raised a glass to ‘Absent Friends’ and thought of all those who have cruised previously on the Luciole.
On Friday afternoon for our visit, the 12th Century Château of Bazoches was bathed in sunshine. Vincent, our superb French tour guide, expertly led us through the home acquired by Vauban in 1675, the château has remained in the family since then. Vauban was the Marshal of France and his significant role in the fortification of the borders of France is on display, along with the impressive family tree.
On the way home we made an impromptu visit to the Church of Saint-Hilaire where Vauban was buried in 1707. It also gave the opportunity to take a photo of us all, with the Luciole’s Mercedes bus, to send to Vincent’s mother, Madame Priollet. We all thought she would approve!
