6th - 12th May 2018
We’ve just completed our first week of the 2018 season. For which we’ve been cruising the Burgundy canal over to the East, due to the collapse of a dam on the Nivernais, detailed in a previous blog. This has meant a lot of cruising – over 100km! As we had to make the distance from Auxerre to the entrance of the Burgundy canal, which is about 30km North in Laroche Migennes. From here we cruised South East, eventually finishing in the town of Montbard, this has meant a lot of locks for Cisco and deckhand Luke, but an enjoyable adventure for the two.
This also seems a good opportunity to introduce our new crew, with changes inside the boat, we have a new and lovely tour guide Jane, who has been trained up during the week by previous tour guide Anna. Inside we have the host Jack, an old family friend and the French hostess Marine who has grown up in hotel barging alongside her prominent father. In the kitchen we have the experienced chef Selby, who travels in from Chamonix and knows Burgundy well. You can find a bit more about them individually here: https://www.bargeluciole.com/about-us#crew
We’ve had some great weather on this opening week as it’s been nice and hot. The weather has been matched by our bright and bubbly guests, who spent the week relaxing on deck or trying out our new electric bikes - and always laughing and smiling. A few had even been on the Luciole before, which is always a compliment!
