Luciole Blog

15th – 21st October 2023

The last week of our season arrived and with it, our lovely passengers to the port of Clamecy. The sun had dipped behind the houses on the hill, but still shone on the Tricolor that flies from the Collegiate Church of St Martin.

It was a tad of a grey day when we cruised out of the port for the final time this year. Our Clamecy friends were there to wave us off, letting us know they were already looking forward to our return next April. By the afternoon however, the clouds were banished and the golden light in Chatel-Censoir was simply stunning. Breath-taking in fact.

Wine tasting in Chablis and the purchase of the Premier Cru for Captain’s Diner, was followed by an exploration of the town with a little bit of hide and seek thrown in for good measure. The last visit to the Caves de Bailly, had us all agreeing beside the banner of ‘La vie est bulle’, that a life with bubbles, should indeed be celebrated.

As the saying goes, ‘all good things must come to an end’ and on Friday afternoon, Captain Jim, steered the Luciole onto her final mooring of the week and season; the sun shone and the clouds raced across the blue sky. Nicolas created his usual magic in the galley for our final supper and later, he and a friend, serenaded us all with guitar in hand and dulcet tones.

An enormous thanks to our wonderful Luciole passengers and crew who have cruised this 2023 season. It really has been absolutely fabulous.
