12th - 18th May 2019
Our passengers this week were residents of America, France and the UK. We were particularly honoured to have Frenchman Philippe aboard to share this glorious corner of Burgundy, unknown by so many who head to the Alps or south of France, or even southern Burgundy, leaving the Nivernais Canal region a delightfully kept secret to so many. Actually it is the way we like it - cruising here feels like a step back in time.
This was the week that Matelot James took to the boom for the first time. The boom is a very useful arm that can swing from the barge to the shore, thereby depositing or collecting a crew member from the bank. It is very handy, particularly when we are wanting to assist a lock keeper or wind up the lift bridge at Pousseaux.
Before lunchtime feasts, there is breakfast. At our quiet moorings the Luciole and her passengers wait for the bread delivery of baguette and pastries from local boulangeries, meanwhile the nightingales continue to serenade night and day. Tranquility to a T in beautiful Burgundy.
