Canal cruise Burgundy

Luciole Blog

16th - 22nd June 2019

Our family charter with six enthusiastic young people, passed in a flash. There was a lot of swimming in the cool River Yonne and the hats-off prize has to go to John for his numerous attempts to summersault off the Luciole boom.

Canoeing along the depths (well some might say the shallows!) and horse riding through the Burgundian hills brought laughter and joy. Then there was also the fishing and biking and hiking up the limestone cliffs to see the views across a far stretching landscape.

In Auxerre on the Friday, La Fete de Musique - always on the 22 June - was as loud as it was enthusiastic. The French hunting horns at the end of the Passerelle competed majestically with the Turkish music and dancing ladies, with their swishing traditional costume skirts, who raised their game against the band beside ’The Bounty’, who towards midnight sang ‘Wish you were here’ by Pink Floyd. A night for many to remember in Auxerre, particularly so for the college youngsters who had finished their last exams that day.

Grandparents were missed, but certainly would have been proud to see their grandchildren (and their parents). We will miss you all the next week, along with the joyous laughter and exuberant energy that family cruises always bring to the Luciole.
