Canal cruise Burgundy

Luciole Blog

4th - 10th August 2019

A birthday cruise for Alan, celebrated on the Luciole. We were honoured!

New discoveries were made this week. Firstly and fascinatingly a secret cupboard in the Cathedral of St Etienne that houses fragments of the stretcher that carried the body of St Germain, Bishop of Auxerre, who died in 448. The Abbey, close by is named after him.

The next day we thought we had found our very own Loch Ness Monster of the Yonne - "Lock Ness". Actually it turned out to be a baguette being nibbled by a shoal of fish, which caused it to bob about in a most animated and realistic fashion!

Our wine tour in Chablis took us though winding streets and up to Grand Cru Hill. Bottles were brought to be drunk in far flung places. Vezelay as always, was calm and inspiring and the Chateau of Bazoches gave us the perfect family shot at the end of the cruise.
